Nokia 8800 & Variants

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no damage is caused to any of the parts.  Rough handling may result in severe damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed, electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.

Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are purchased for the job in hand - at the very least, you will require a Torx T6 screwdriver. 

Step 1.  Protect the screen with a film or similar.

Step 2.  Remove the battery cover.

Step 3.  Remove the four screws and take careful note of their positions as you will note they are different sizes.

Step 4.  Remove the B cover by moving it in a downwards direction and then lifting from the top of the handset.

Step 5.  Unlock the aerial assembly starting from the left hand side.

Step 6.  Use an unplugged charger to remove the system connector.

Step 7.  Remove the vibra motor using a flat bladed screwdriver.  Take note that unlike virtually any other Nokia handset, this one is stuck in place with double sided tape that will probably have to be replaced..

Step 8.  Use your screwdriver to remove the microphone.  Take note that you will more than likely destroy it removing it and will have to replace it prior to reassembly.

Step 9.  Unlock and remove the SIM retainer.

Step 10.  Pull up the A cover taking care not to damage the flex foil.

Step 11.  Open the first flex connector carefully using your shim.

Step 12.  Now open the second connector and remove the circuit board.

Step 13.  Carefully peel off the bottom flex.

Step 14.  Move the slide to the end position before you go any further.

Step 15.  Use your shim to remove the back plate.  Take note that the back plate should not be reused so a replacement will need to be sourced.

Step 16.  Peel off the back plate slowly and carefully.

Step 17.  Remove the four Torx T4 screws in the order shown below and store them safely.

Step 18.  Remove the user interface cover.

Step 19.  Protect the inner side and the LCD screen with a film or similar.

Step 20.  Use your shim to lever out the camera module.

Step 21.  Use tweezers to remove the ear piece.

Step 22.  Pull up the camera housing.

Step 23.  Use your shim to lever out the key mat.

Step 24.  Carefully lift up the main flex,

Step 25.  and peel it off (carefully).

Step 26.  Release the springs from the middle pin first.

Step 27.  Now release the and of the springs.

Step 28.  Reassembly is a simple reversal of the above steps taking extra time to ensure that everything works as it should, and that you have caused no damage whilst inside the handset.
